چکیده

Switching the traffic in optical domain has been considerably investigated as a future-proof solution to overcome intrinsic bandwidth bottleneck of electrical switches data center networks (DCNs). However, due lack fast and scalable switch control mechanism, buffers for contention resolution, complicated implementation clock recovery (CDR), practical deployment centers (DCs) remains big challenge. In this work, we develop experimentally demonstrate first time flow-controlled clock-distributed system, implementing 43.4 ns configuration time, less than 3.0E-10 packet loss rate resulting from contention, 3.1 CDR time. Experimental results confirm that zero buffer overflow caused lower $3~ \boldsymbol {\mu }\text{s}$ server-to-server latency are achieved network deploying smaller 8192 bytes at load 0.5. Real servers running Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) generating monitoring tools exploited system well, validating its capability DCNs services applications with full TCP bandwidth.

A Customer Oriented Approach for Distribution System Reliability Improvement using Optimal Distributed Generation and Switch Placement

The reliability of distribution networks is inherently low due to their radial nature, consequently distribution companies (DisCos) usually seek to improve the system reliability indices with the minimum possible investment cost. This can be known as system-oriented reliability planning (SORP). However, there can exist some customers that are not satisfied by their reliability determined by ado...

Distributed Nonlinear Robust Control for Power Flow in Islanded Microgrids

In this paper, a robust local controller has been designed to balance the power for distributed energy resources (DERs) in an islanded microgrid. Three different DER types are considered in this study; photovoltaic systems, battery energy storage systems, and synchronous generators. Since DER dynamics are nonlinear and uncertain, which may destabilize the power system or decrease the performanc...

The “Staggering Switch”: An Electronically Controlled Optical Packet Switch

This paper presents an architecture and implementation issues of an “almost-all” optical packet switch that does not rely on recirculating loops for storage implementation. The architecture is based on two rearrangeably nonblocking stages interconnected by optical delay lines with different amounts of delay. We investigate the probability of loss and the switch latency as a function of link uti...

Second Order Sliding Mode Observer-Based Control for Uncertain Nonlinear MEMS Optical Switch

This paper studies theuncertain nonlinear dynamics of a MEMS optical switch addressing electrical, mechanical and optical subsystems. Recently, MEMS optical switch has had significant merits in reliability, control voltage requirements and power consumption. However, an inherent weakness in designing control for such systems is unavailability of switch position information at all times due to t...

TONAK: A Distributed Low-latency and Scalable Optical Switch Architecture

This paper proposes TONAK, an AWGR-based optical switch with distributed control plane. Simulations results for a 128-port switch show high throughput and low average packet latency for offered loads of up to 75%, while achieving an energy efficiency of ≈ 50pJ/bit. Introduction The ever-growing demand for cloud-based services and high-performance computing is posing major challenges to the scal...
